Chlorine plays an important role in maintaining safe drinking water, and customers often have questions about how it works and why it is used. In this edition, we're taking a closer look at how water quality is monitored, why disinfectant levels are important, and the steps utilities take to maintain water quality and address potential concerns.

Canyon Lake is one of Comal County’s most treasured shared resources and one of the most breathtaking reservoirs in South-Central Texas. Created in 1964 to provide flood control and a dependable water supply throughout the Guadalupe River Basin, the reservoir also plays an important role in Texas Water Company’s (TWC) water portfolio. For TWC, Canyon Lake is a major surface-water source that helps provide drinking water to about 25,102 households in our service areas.

If you’ve ever looked at a river or lake after heavy rain, you may have noticed that the water looks a little different—perhaps cloudier, darker or less clear than usual. One reason for that change is turbidity. Turbidity is a measure of the cloudiness or haziness of water caused by tiny, suspended particles. These particles can include silt, clay, organic matter, and microorganisms. Think of turbidity like dust in the air. Just as dust can make the air look hazy, suspended particles can make water appear cloudy.

With summer temperatures continuing to climb across Central Texas, outdoor water use typically reaches its highest levels of the year. From landscape irrigation to topping off swimming pools, seasonal water demands can increase significantly during periods of prolonged heat. In this edition, we're answering some common summer water use questions and providing updates on two major infrastructure projects currently under construction.
