Surface Water Treatment Technique Violation – July 2025

Tier 1 violations/Acute

Mandatory Language for Surface Water Treatment Technique Violation

SURFACE WATER TREATMENT TECHNIQUE: ACUTE

The Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) sets minimum water quality standards for public drinking water. One of these standards is a turbidity limit. Turbidity by itself has no health effects. However, turbidity can interfere with disinfection and provide a medium for microbial growth. Turbidity may also indicate the presence of disease-causing organisms. These organisms include bacteria, viruses, and parasites that can cause symptoms such as nausea, cramps, diarrhea, and associated headaches. These symptoms can be particularly severe in people who are not as resistant to infections as most of the population. If you experience severe symptoms, please consult with your doctor to determine what actions you should take.

The CLWSC CANYON LAKE SHORES, PWS ID TX0460019 failed to meet the minimum treatment technique requirements for the month of July 2025. Specifically, our water system had

· Combined filter effluent turbidity (CFE) readings above 5.0 NTU.

Due to the severe flooding along the Guadalupe River, our Park Shores Treatment Plant experienced a significant influx of debris and sediment into Canyon Lake. This resulted in elevated turbidity levels at the intake to our treatment plant. In response, and in accordance with regulatory requirements, a Boil Water Notice (BWN) was issued as a mandate to protect public health.

The notice remained in effect while we worked to safely reduce sediment levels and ensure the water met all state safety standards.

Please share this information with all people who drink this water, especially those who may not have received this notice directly (i.e., people in apartments, nursing homes, schools, and businesses). You can do this by posting this notice in a public place or distributing copies by hand or mail.

We understand the frustration and uncertainty surrounding this situation, and we want to reassure our customers that we are actively working to restore safe water service as quickly and safely as possible. We’re pleased to share that we are seeing encouraging improvements at our treatment plant, sedimentation levels are steadily improving, and overall water quality is trending in the right direction.

If all test results meet state safety standards, we are hopeful that the boil water notice may be rescinded on or before Friday, July 11 Customers should continue to boil water until an official notice is issued stating the Boil Water Notice has been rescinded by The Texas Water Company.

Boil Water Notice for Community Public Water Systems    July 7th, 2025

The Texas Water Company is committed to ensuring the safety and well-being of our customers.  We prioritize the quality and reliability of our water services, and we continuously monitor and improve our systems to meet the highest standards. Your health and trust are our top priorities, and we remain dedicated to transparency, safety, and exceptional service in every community we serve.

Due to the continued influx of debris and sediment from the severe flooding event of the Guadalupe River into Canyon Lake, the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality has required the Canyon Lake Shores, PWS ID TX0460019, public water system to notify all customers to boil their water before consumption (e.g., washing hands/face, brushing teeth, drinking, etc.) effective immediately. Children, seniors, and persons with weakened immune systems are particularly vulnerable to harmful bacteria, and all customers should follow these directions.

To ensure the destruction of all harmful bacteria and other microbes, water for drinking, cooking, and ice-making should be boiled and cooled before use for drinking water or human consumption purposes. The water should be brought to a vigorous rolling boil and then boiled for two minutes.

In lieu of boiling, individuals may purchase bottled water or obtain water from some other suitable source for drinking water or human consumption purposes.

When it is no longer necessary to boil the water, the public water system officials will notify customers that the water is safe for drinking water or human consumption purposes.

Once the boil water notice is no longer in effect, the public water system will issue a notice to customers that rescind the boil water notice in a manner similar to this notice.

Please share this information with all the other people who drink this water, especially those who may not have received this notice directly (for example, people in apartments, nursing homes, schools, and businesses). You can do this by posting this notice in a public place or distributing copies by hand or mail.

We anticipate this will be a multi-day event, as we monitor conditions and wait for the debris to settle. The notice will be rescinded once water quality is confirmed to meet established safety standards.

We regret any inconvenience this may cause and appreciate your patience and cooperation as we work diligently to restore safe water and quality service. Your safety is our top priority.
